The School Experience

In this video, students and parents from the Down syndrome and intellectual disability community speak openly about their overall school experiences, what has worked well, and the challenges they have faced along the way. The purpose of this video and the other Student and Parent Perspective videos is to encourage schools to reflect on and strengthen inclusive practices. We thank all the students and parents who participated.

Teachers

In this video, students and parents from the Down syndrome and intellectual disability community share their stories about their favourite teachers, the positive impact they have had, and what attributes in a teacher matter most to them. The parents also provide wisdom on what they wish all teachers and school staff knew about teaching a child with Down syndrome and/or intellectual disability.

Learning at school and home

In this video, students with Down syndrome and/or intellectual disability share how they learn to read, how they learn maths, and how their teachers can support their learning in both areas. Parents of these students discuss their children’s experiences with literacy and numeracy and share the strategies that are most effective in supporting their learning.
