Dr Carly Lassig

Dr Carly Lassig is the Lead Education Consultant at Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability Queensland, where she manages a team of experienced Education Consultants who support schools all across Queensland. Additionally, she is a Visiting Fellow at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and an Affiliate Member of QUT’s Centre for Inclusive Education. With a remarkable 20-year career in education, Carly began as a classroom teacher in the primary and the middle years, both nationally and internationally. After completing her PhD, Carly has built an international profile as an education researcher, developed and taught inclusive education units to pre-service and in-service teachers, and supervised Doctoral and Masters students in their postgraduate research projects at QUT. In her current position at Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability Queensland, Carly is passionate about supporting educators to understand students with Down syndrome, intellectual disability, or other complex profiles and to enhance these students’ access, engagement, belonging, learning, and achievement. She is highly sought after by schools for collaborative consultations and to deliver professional development in the areas of intellectual disability and inclusive education. Carly holds a Bachelor of Education (Primary, Hons 1) and a PhD in education.

Kath Bunney

Kath Bunney is an Education Consultant at DSIDQ in both the ID:8 service and the Kindy Inclusion Service. She holds a Bachelor of Education and postgraduate qualifications in Special Education and Psychology. Kath has over 20 years’ experience supporting students with diverse learning needs. She specialises in inclusive education practices and capacity-building across early childhood and school settings.

Elisha Byrne

Elisha Byrne is an Education Consultant at DSIDQ, where she works closely with educators across Queensland to support the inclusion of students with Down syndrome, intellectual disability, and complex profiles. With over 15 years’ experience in education, Elisha has held roles as a classroom teacher, learning support coordinator, and program leader both in Australia and internationally. She holds a Bachelor of Education and has completed postgraduate studies in Counselling and Inclusive Education. Elisha is passionate about helping schools build inclusive practices that ensure every student can access, participate, and thrive.

Denise Maindonald

Denise is an Education Consultant at DSIDQ, with over 20 years of experience in teaching students with disabilities. After a period working as an ICU Registered Nurse, Denise chose a career in education, reaffirming her passion and commitment by completing a Master of Special Needs (Intellectual Disability & Autism Spectrum Disorder). With nearly two decades as a registered and practicing Key Word Sign (KWS) presenter, Denise brings a wealth of expertise in Alternative and Augmentative Communication. Her school-based KWS workshops are highly sought after and consistently receive excellent feedback for their practical value and engaging delivery. Denise’s multidisciplinary experience, combined with her warm and inclusive approach, makes her a trusted advisor and advocate for inclusive practices across educational settings.

Education Consultant

Sinead Barry is the Education Administration Officer at DSIDQ. Sinead holds a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and worked as an Early Childhood Teacher for many years, both in Australia and Ireland. In recent years, Sinead has moved into an administrative role, working with multiple community organisations, and now with DSIDQ. Sinead assists the education team in scheduling consults, liaising with schools, organising events and travel, and ensuring grant deliverables are being met and accurately documented.

Amanda Sarchet

Education Resource Officer

Amanda Sarchet serves as the Education Resource Officer at DSIDQ. With a Bachelor of Education and more than 16 years of experience in the education sector, she has supported students with a wide range of learning needs. Amanda is dedicated to fostering inclusive education and is passionate about equipping schools with the tools and strategies needed to ensure all students can access a quality education.
